Dr. Candal is a fourth generation physician and a second generation ophthalmologist. He was born in Pennsylvania, but moved as a child to Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed his Medical School training at the Universidad del Salvador, in Buenos Aires.
Soon after graduation, he returned to the United States and completed a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at the Yale Eye Center. After two years of Internal Medicine, he returned to the Yale Eye Center for his ophthalmology residency. Dr. Candal subsequently pursued a Corneal/Refractive Surgery Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center, in Chicago, where he would meet his future wife.
Dr. Candal has been in Massachusetts since 2003, and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. His clinical interests are cataract and refractive surgery, including LASIK and PRK. He is a father of three soccer loving kids, and he enjoys coaching them on their travel teams. He is fluent in Spanish and conversational in Portuguese.
