Many people feel insecure about imperfections on their face, specifically the area around their eyes. This can include sunspots, age spots, and rosacea. These imperfections can negatively impact one’s self-confidence and prevent them from acting like their true self.
Fortunately, for those struggling with this, our dry eye treatment can also be used to lessen the appearance of these imperfections. This can help you feel more confident and happy with your appearance.
What Are Sunspots and Age Spots?
Sunspots, also called age spots, are flat, darkened patches on the skin, often light brown to black in color. They are caused by the overproduction of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color, due to sun damage. These spots can appear on any area of the body that is frequently exposed to sunlight, but are most commonly found on the face. Generally, sunspots are harmless and treating them is done for cosmetic reasons.
What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that primarily affects the face, causing redness, small blood vessels, pimples, and other inflammatory skin changes. Rosacea is not a purely cosmetic issue, as some individuals with rosacea experience red, dry, itchy eyes, and even blurry vision. Rosacea has no cure but symptoms are manageable with treatment. The cause of this condition is unknown, but genetics, immune system issues, and environmental factors are believed to play a role.
How Are Sunspots and Rosacea Treated?
Both sunspots and rosacea can be treated using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). While this treatment is primarily used to treat dry eye, it can also work to treat the cosmetic symptoms of sunspots and rosacea by:
- Lightening hyperpigmentation
- Making skin tone more even
- Reducing redness
- Minimizing blood vessel visibility
A single IPL treatment for cosmetic reasons typically takes about 10-15 minutes, with a full course of treatment usually consisting of 3-4 sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart. Many patients will notice a reduction in sunspot or rosacea appearance after their first session, with further reduction after each successive session.
One of our physicians will conduct a thorough examination of your condition in order to determine if IPL treatment is right for you.
